What are solenoid valves ?

It is necessary to automatically control (on or off) the circuit of a refrigeration system. A solenoid valve is commonly used in refrigeration systems.

What is a Solenoid valve ?

A solenoid valve usually consists of an armature properly sealed and a core made up of iron right in centre of it. A solenoid valve works on the principle of electromanetism and when main PCB sends a signal or current to solenoid valve the armature behaves like a magnet and iron core moves upwords and refrigeration circuit opens up.

For example an ice cube machine. When ice cubes are ready in the evaporator ice trays of ice machine a solenoid vavle is fixed in the by pass line and when it comes in action the high temperature refrigerant is made to pass directly through the evaporator by passing the expansion valve and ice cubes fall into the ice container. And when ice falls in the container the soilenoid valve get de-energized and again refrigerant start to pass through the expansion valve to produce ice cubes. In ice machine solenoid valve's coil or armature are connected with NO(Normally open) NC( Normally close) poles of Magnetic contactor which controls the power supply to on off the compressor. When the compressor is off from magnetic contactor by automation the supply NO NC will pass to the solenoid coil and energises it. And when compressor gets start up the soleniod will be de-energised.

There Three types of Solenoid Valvles :-
1. Two-Way solenoid valve- These valves are used for single refrigeration cycle to simply by pass the refrigerant to evaporator.

2. Three-way solenoid valve- These vavles are used in commercial refrigeration systems for double refrigeration systems like ice machines.

3. Four-way reversing valve - A four way reversing solenoid valve is used in big heat pump systems.
